Dip Dye Side Note

I LOVE this dip dyed tea towel posted on Remodelista a few months ago. I'm going to be needed in a shower curtain again soon, so thought it'd be a good opportunity to bring in the dip dye look.
Was going to do try it out on this canvas shower curtain one sale at CB2. What do you think? The problem is it isn't on sale enough that I wouldn't be sad if I mess it up. Does anyone have any dip dying tips?

Seeing Design

Anne E. Collins, managing editor at Elle Decor's online website, PointClickHome, just started her own design blog, Seeing Design, to capture the before and afters of her home transformation. First up, her bedroom, which she based around the color palette from our Leaves wallpaper from ferm's Collection 1.

It is so soft and lovely! I'm a sucker for plain white bedding against a beautifully wallpapered wall. Makes me want to go back to bed, actually... You can read the full post here (or at apartment therapy!). Be sure to check out the befores. Woah.

I'm also a huge sucker for fireplaces in the bedroom, which is why this picture makes me beyond envious. [We also love (and approved...) her blog header.] Thanks so very much, Anne!

In case you're curious, the Leaves wallpaper is no longer in stock, but if you're interested in one of our deeply discounted wallpapers from collection one, we still have a few left. Just click here to check 'em out.

Aimee just put up Voila wallpaper in her bathroom. It went up in a snap (under an hour) and looks tres magnifique! You can read the full post over at Picnics Under the Moon.

I love how it turned out - works perfectly with the picture she took from the Tuileries!

Spring is (almost) in the Air

Spring seems to be just around the corner here in Minneapolis. It's a bit confusing as to when it will actually arrive. For example, today the sun is out but I stepped outside with wet hair and it pretty much froze. Anyway, I have a balcony at my new apartment, and to prepare for spring (as a law of nature, it must come at some point, yes?), I checked out the above wicker rockers from Ikea yesterday. Two thumbs up! Granted, they probably do look even better against a gorgeous seascape. But I think they'll work equally fab looking out over a little doggie park.
I think I'm going to go for a shorter hair style such as Shannon's here. Has anyone seen her on the last couple episodes of How To Make It In America? Her hair is looking so hipster and cute on that show. The only problem being, I think one has to be equally hipster and cute to pull off such a do.

I keep hearing that summer in Minnesota is going to rock. So, I'll withhold any judgment about whether the above statement is true till I've experienced it first stand. In any case, I want that tee regardless.

Finishing Touches

Just wanted to post a few more photos from Deanna's lovely bedroom. LOVE the metal sculpture with the wilderness wallpaper. And, the simple black and white photography adds such a nice balance to the room. Thanks, Deanna! We can't wait to hear how the home tour goes!

California Butterflies

Check out our butterflies in this month's issue of California Home & Design (via Turquoise)! The room was designed for Upward Bound House - such a great project. Aimee and I are so inspired to figure out how we can do something similar in Minneapolis (if anyone has ideas, let us know!).

Fort Fun Nursery

Yesterday, I got an email from my best friend from college, Mary, who is having some trouble with her nursery. As in, not a whole has been happening to get it ready for the arrival of their baby girl this summer! Because daylight savings seems to be screwing with my ability to sleep, I decided to put together a little plan for her room late last night. In keeping with Mary and John's desire to keep the room fairly unisex, I started with this lovely dotty pillow in dusty aqua.
Then I mixed in a couple Darling Clementine pillows from our new collection with complimentary colors and picked a neutral organic bedding from Land of Nod where they registered. I love the simple, pure feeling of this bedding.

For the walls, Benjamin Moore's Icing on the Cake or Irish Mint (or maybe I picked these because I was hungry, might need to reevaluate...) appear to be a similar color to the dusty aqua pillow. Do the trim in simply white or super white.

Next up, some graphic elements from Ikea - a striped rug would be so great in a baby's room, and I thought that fabric could easily be turned into some pretty curtains. The navy lamp works with the throw pillows and the pendant lamp adds a soft, girly element.

Finally, a few natural elements - a woven stool, birch tree wall sticker, this cool abacus art thing. And, this lovely "you are my sunshine" wooden plaque is just perfect for a baby girl! Okay, Mary, call me with questions :)

A Couple Suggestions

Add tree bomb wallpaper in purple to take your girly bathroom up a notch (via Adrienne at Apartment Therapy).

Mix a peacock pillow into your lovely nursery for the full woodland effect (via raenovate at littlemissheirlooms).

Double Trouble

We've been dying over these fantastic pictures that Deanna just sent us. She just put up Double Trouble in her son's room and it looks so good! And, how perfect is that bedding with it? So cute!

To get ready for her Phoenix home tour, she also redesigned this room for her son, Barrett. Using polyvore.com, she put together all the graphic elements. SO COOL - very sophisticated, but still whimsical and fun! What a lucky little guy!

Thanks again, Deanna. We hope Barrett likes it as much as we do!

Way Better than Recycling

Deanna recently wallpapered her gorgeous bedroom in Wilderness gold, and realized she had enough left over paper for another small project. Not wanting to waste it, she decided to hang it in the nook of her desk. We wholeheartedly approve! It works beautifully with the wood desk and it much more fun to look at than a plain white wall.

And the Panton chair? That's just icing on the cake. Thanks so much, Deanna. Happy typing!

Ruby Sunday

My parents, Ken and Angela, celebrated 40 years of marriage yesterday. My dad grew up in Fairfield, Iowa and my mom in Yorkshire, England. Somehow they both managed to venture to Canberra, Australia for school where they met and fell in love (more here). I wanted to wish them a very happy anniversary and post a few pictures of what true and unconditional love looks like to me.

They spent their first Christmas together after they were married in Davenport, Iowa. At least I'm pretty sure it was Davenport. Davenport has gotten stuck in the brain (for obvious reasons...).

This past Christmas, they watched their first grandchild open his first Christmas present, even more in love than all those years ago. Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad!

Red Carpet Weekend

In honor of one of my favorite weekends of the year, I put together a little dream highlighting one of my favorite accent colors... Red blanket in the bedroom (via From the Right Bank).

Perfect living room, dining room, kitchen and bathroom. Check, check, check, and check! Images via Desire to Inspire, remodelista, and emmasdesignblog (I think).

Oh, and let's not forget the perfect red wallpaper!

I'll be warming up to big event on Sunday night by brunching with friends. I've been tasked with making bloody marys (image from here). To shrimp or not to shrimp? Only time will tell... Happy Weekend!

These are a Few of our Favorite Things

Sheepskin on Bertoia and a cool ink blot pillow, black and yellow color combos and a fitted sheet that won't billow, wallpaper branches that blend into (mattress) springs... Yes, you must try singing it. It might be sort of fun if you gave it a try?*

We were so happy to stumble across these ink blot pillow with our Branch wallpaper at Uniform Natural and think they are gorgeous! Of course, styling with ferm living never hurt anything.

In my efforts to rhyme, I was reminded of another of our favorite things. The armadillo. One day they will be more popular. I'm not sure how or why, but surely they must receive the recognition they deserve. You read it hear first :) Also, if you're at a bar at some point and your bartender offers you a refreshingly delicious Armadilly cocktail, I invented it. Cheers!*

* I ran out of coffee this morning.

Design Milk's Favorite Rooms

I was just catching up on twitter (does anyone else have a hard time figuring out Twitter? - e.g. how do you see direct mentions? how do your forward tweets? - But don't let that stop you from following us on Twitter here!) and discovered I'd been mentioned in Design Milk's round up of her favorite rooms at the Canadian House & Home blog. Saying that I'm super excited doesn't capture it adequately considering what a huge fan I am of both Design Milk and House & Home. I guess I'm excited squared or something.

You can see Jaime's full round up here! Be sure to check out the full article for lots of inspiration (including our favorite office at Door Sixteen)! Thanks so much, Jaime!

Paradise Found

These pictures come from the beautiful home of Deanna in Phoenix who's getting ready to have her gorgeous home featured in the Modern Phoenix Home Tour. You must check out the pictures of their home here. Amazing. And, if you live in the area, be sure to take the tour!

We love the use Wilderness in Gold here. It has a slightly vintage touch and works perfectly with the neutral bedding and lovely accessories. Aimee's immediate reaction was to want those pillows, and I can't take my eye off the lamps... We both dig the touch of blue in the room as well.

At some point I plan to stop viewing my life through a Mad Men lens, but seriously. If I lived in a house that cool, I might have to start chain-smoking ;) Or at least drinking a lot more tomato juice and such. Thanks so much, Deanna, and good luck with the tour!
